Advantages of recovery
Recovery is a necessity in becoming a good rider, and ImproveCycling.com therefore recommend 1-2 weekly days off away from the bike. In combination, it also demands training days with low intensity, where you loosen up the muscles. Also called active recovery or active rest.
You achieve the following advantages with recovery tough training:
- Gives the muscles rest to rebuild those “injuries” the tough training has induced.
- Muscles have time to rebuild further strength, so they can handle even tougher strain next time. This is when the muscle “over compensates”.
- This gives peace of mind to do other things and helps focus on your next goal and training pass.
